Super STEM!

Super STEM!

STEM activities are  incredibly fun for all involved.  It is an approach to learning and development that includes science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Therefore the learning opportunities alongside the high levels of motivation are simply superb!

This week Year 3 were given the challenge in groups to create the tallest structure possible with only 20 popsicle sticks and a lump of plasticine.  Each group carefully considered different shapes and their structural properties, whilst clearly communicating and working together in order to present their results to the other groups.  Their structures were utterly amazing with the use of cubes and triangles, debating and the use of trail and error.

STEM activities apart from being thoroughly enjoyable, also creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators. Encouraging thinking outside the box leading to innovation leads to new products and processes that in the future may sustain our economy. Therefore it is safe to say that STEM activities are an imperative element of education.
