English is a core subject within the curriculum and it is worked on a dialy basis through ca veriety of different fun activities and methodologies in order to create inspired, fluent and confident students.

Phonics is worked both explicitly and implicitly from a young age in order to teach children how to decode letters into their respective sounds, a skill that is essential for them to read unfamiliar words by themselves. Therefore, phonics instruction is important because reading with fluency and comprehension, is largely dependent on the ability of a reader to recognize printed words quickly and accurately, and then link the words with their meanings.  Furthermore, it is also essential for developing spelling skills, as children learn to apply the phonetic rules for different phonemes.

All in all, given that phonics is vital for the development of strong reading and writing skills it plays an important role in our daily curriculum!
